Motionhouse - Passionate Performance, Startling Spectacle, Dynamic Dance
Motionhouse was founded 25 years ago in 1988 by Kevin Finnan and Louise Richards. Our company has since become one of the leading dance theatre companies in the UK making our work locally, touring our work globally.
We create startling, passionate dance theatre. Our productions are designed to challenge as well as delight our audiences and they fuse images with action and dynamism. Our performances are rooted in dance but draw on theatre, circus, acrobatics and film to create work that makes you think and feel.
We tour our productions to theatres and festivals throughout the world. We've developed a reputation over the years for ambitious experimentation and our productions, in which setting, action and context collide, have become world-renowned. A wide ranging education and participatory programme runs parallel to our touring performance work.
But it's our audiences that are at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on producing shows of outstanding quality that are accessible and enjoyable for all.
We have a strong, loyal fan base and we've previously won the 'Audience Prize' at both the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards in the UK and at the MiramirO Festival in Belgium. Other highlights for Motionhouse include: the creation of large scale spectacle, The Voyage for London 2012 Festival, sold out international touring of Scattered, European touring of festival piecesand Artistic Director, Kevin Finnan’s appointment as Choreographer and Movement Director for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
2013 had already seen us embark on a succesful large scale tour of the USA in January with Scattered, taking in 6 states, 12 venues and 15 shows with around 10,000 people attending over the course of the tour. Scattered also has its Italian debut in April. New festival piece Captive heads out on its first tour in Spring, alongside further European touring from Underground and Cascade. Traction will also tour to Marseilles-Provence for the Capital of Culture Celebrations. We will also be premiering a new theatre piece, Broken, in October ahead of a full UK tour. We continue to offer our PerfectEd GCSE programme and ongoing participatory activity.

"Motionhouse's work is some of the most startling and original performance based contemporary dance I have had the pleasure of witnessing... the original dynamic performance and sheer talent of the performers leaves the viewer utterly amazed. The incredible physical achievements and beautiful dance by this group are just captivating."
