Motionhouse Youth perform at Coventry’s Shop Front Theatre Festival

3rd April 2018

Our Motionhouse Youth group recently had the pleasure of performing at Coventry’s Shop Front Festival – the city’s first key arts event since Coventry was named UK City of Culture 2021.

Presented by Theatre Absolute, Shop Front Festival (23-24 March) saw theatre, dance and immersive performances take place across Coventry city centre, from shows in shop fronts and pop-up performances in precincts, to dancing in the streets. Also part of the national Get Creative Festival, this was a real celebration of creative talent in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Motionhouse Youth performed a special public rehearsal of their new piece, Alpha. Thrilling and thought-provoking, this exciting piece explores what it means to be primal and the idea of a pack mentality.

Shop Front Festival is presented by Chris O’Connell and Julia Negus, the writer and producer who run the award-winning Coventry-based Theatre Absolute, which has been operating out of the old Fishy Moores – a former ‘Chippy’ in City Arcade – since 2009, working with independent artistic director Orit Azaz and outdoor producer Lou Lomas.

The Shop Front Festival is supported by Coventry City of Culture Trust, Coventry City Council, Heart of England Community Foundation, Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), Backstage Trust, and 29th May Trust.
