Motionhouse ‘Lifts Leamington’ to celebrate its 30th anniversary….

...and will continue with #LiftLocal!

17th July 2018

Motionhouse had an uplifting day on July 11th with the company’s ‘Lift Leamington’ fundraising event in celebration of the company’s 30 years in Leamington. Performers from Motionhouse went around town to execute 30 lifts for 30 years.

Louise Richards, Executive Director of Motionhouse said: “We’ve been based in Leamington since Kevin Finnan and I created Motionhouse here in 1988 and we’re incredibly proud of our home town. For our 30th anniversary, we wanted to do something that also celebrated some of the amazing local businesses and the town itself, and we think our #LiftLeamington did just that! Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun and supported us – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.”

Due to the success of the day and demand for lifts exceeding the number possible in one day, Motionhouse will be doing another day of lifts on Tuesday 21st of August. Contact Jane Bailey [email protected]  if you would like to book a lift in return for a £30 donation to Motionhouse to help the company carry on creating new work and expanding its youth and community activities in the local area.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the local businesses that took part;  Coffee Architects, Haddie & Trilby, Caking and Baking, Harrison Beale & Owen, BID Leamington, Binswood Health Club & Spa, Tustains Jewellers, Aubrey Allen, Leamington Assembly, Bravissimo, Collective, The Star & Garter, The Spa at Leamington, Nashwhite, Leamington Art in the Park Festival, LEAR Fitness, Beauty on Demand, Lockwoods, First Utility, Wright Hassall, Vitsoe, Cook Shop and Wareing & Co.

Motionhouse has been making and touring incredible dance-circus productions from its base in Leamington Spa since the company was created in 1988 by Louise Richards and Kevin Finnan MBE, who was Choreographer and Movement Director of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

From that original two-hander, in the past 30 years, Motionhouse has grown to take work made in Leamington Spa across the globe, performing in China, Japan, the USA and across Europe, as well as regular tours of the UK. In the past year alone, the company has performed to nearly 80,000 people and more than 11,000 children, young people and adults have taken part in one of Motionhouse’s dynamic learning or participatory activities.

A registered charity, Motionhouse is raising money during its 30th anniversary year to support its ambitious projects and its work in the local area, whilst championing the community that it has lived and worked in for 3 decades.
