We’re excited to announce our new MA in Dance Theatre with Coventry University!

The course will be a unique opportunity for students to develop professional level dance-theatre making and performance skills. The ground-breaking course will be open to a first cohort in 2020.
Dr Sara Reed, Principal Lecturer & Associate Professor of Dance and member of C-DaRE, Centre for Dance Research at Coventry University said: “This exciting new course offers the chance to gain industry-relevant expertise and study through a blend of practical performance projects, workshop intensives and interdisciplinary work with one of the most exciting dance companies in the UK.”
Students on this course will have the opportunity to work with us in our exciting rehearsal and creation space in Leamington Spa, which is equipped to support the development of work for circus, dance and technology contexts.
The course has been designed to prepare students to be innovative and adventurous creators, performers, educators and researchers, aiming to provide them with an advanced understanding and associated skills in performance techniques, choreography, teaching and production.
“Drawing on the working practices of Motionhouse, students will expand their own artistic practice and ability to create original and innovative work,” said Dr Reed. “Dance-theatre, circus and spectacle is a growing and creative sector in the performing arts professional world. This course has been designed to prepare students to be innovative and adventurous makers, performers, choreographers, educators and researchers. It aims to provide them with an advanced understanding and associated skills in performance techniques, choreography, teaching and production.”
Our Artistic Director Dr Kevin Finnan MBE, who will be leading on the course said: “The MA in Dance Theatre is a really great opportunity to spend some considered time looking at how work is made, allowing people to develop their own process of creation and to creatively play with it in practice.”
Open to students from a range of backgrounds including performing arts, dance, circus, theatre and choreography, the course combines practical performance projects alongside research events and seminars with leading academics and industry professionals involved in production, project management and funding. Residencies will include skills development, devising techniques and many other elements including performances by the students.
Students will join an established School of Media and Performing Arts known for industry-facing research- informed and practice-led provision, split between the Coventry campus and our professional studios in Leamington Spa.
