Welcoming Phoebe and Callum to the team!

30th September 2019

Hi everyone, my name is Phoebe and I joined Motionhouse as the Fundraising Coordinator at the beginning of September. I grew up in the Warwickshire area, recently returning from Brighton where I studied and worked for 5 years, and I am delighted to be working with such an incredible arts organisation in my local area.

I have had an extremely warm welcome into the Motionhouse family and I am grateful to be surrounded by so many talented and creative people both in the rehearsal space and the office. So far I have been lucky to see WILD, Happy Hour,  Knot and BLOCK  and talk to new audiences, hearing how the shows inspire and excite them.

Working with Motionhouse is a new challenge for me and I am excited to play my part in keeping up the fantastic work.

Hello my name is Callum and I’m the new Programming Assistant for Motionhouse! I’m a third year placement student from the University of Surrey. I first encountered Motionhouse whilst studying them for my A level Performance Studies and never had the opportunity to see their work live. So not only being able to see a rehearsal performance of Captive but also taking part in company class made for a fantastic first week at work.

However my current highlight is definitely seeing WILD at the Royal Spa Centre. This was the first time the company had performed WILD in a theatre rather than outdoors and, from what I heard, it made for a wholly different experience. Stark shadows thrown against the walls from dramatic sidelights gave way to a powerful message about the role of technology in our society. The lighting design was instrumental in this, contrasting cool and warm lighting and using the full height of the WILD set, which left me literally speechless.

Overall, I couldn’t be more excited to be working for a company who have made such a huge impact on the dance industry and look forward to taking as much as I can from this experience to apply it in the future wherever that takes me.
