Today, we’re celebrating some of the unsung heroes of Motionhouse, our brilliant technical team. As they are driving the WILD set back from a week of performances at Fusion Festival in Germany today, we thought it was a fitting moment to shine a light (pun intended😊) on the pivotal role that they play in the company.
Without them, our busy touring schedule simply could not happen. Andy, our Technical Manager and Tamsin our Technician, supported by George, Hemashu, Martin and other freelance crew, are the first to arrive at a venue and the last to leave. They drive the truck with the set in it to each venue and once they’ve arrived, are responsible for putting up the set, installing and programming the highly sophisticated mapping projectors that we use to create our magical worlds onstage, install and test the sound and the lights and get the stage ready for performance.
They also look after our dancers, making sure they have everything they need and that they are in a safe environment as they perform their incredible feats. When the performance ends and the audience leaves, Andy, Tamsin and the team take to the stage to take down the set and bring it back to our home base or on to the next venue.
Andy is involved in touring right from the booking stage, working with the technical teams in venues across the world, approving each venue from a technical point of view (checking that the set will fit on stage, designing the lighting plan, looking at other technical requirements, etc.). The technical team also manage the sets, props and costumes in our creative space in Leamington Spa, check the sets are safe to use and create risk assessments and carnets for all our touring.
