Inspiring young people in Cornwall

13th June 2024

We love connecting with young people during our extensive tours – inspiring the next generation to connect with dance and the arts is at the heart of what we do. We provide a variety of exciting opportunities via our venue partners for local groups or schools to learn from our dancers while they’re on tour. The chance to work closely with one of our amazing performers is a truly inspiring experience for the young people taking part.

That’s why we collaborate closely with the venues we visit to provide as many of these enriching experiences as possible throughout the UK. For instance, our trip to Hall for Cornwall earlier this year was filled with a range of life changing experiences and memorable moments with our dancers for young people in the local area, and we also delivered a pro-class while we were in the area too. Our packed schedule of activities with young people included workshops with Hall for Cornwall Youth Company, Cornwall Dance School, Mounts Bay Academy, Richard Lander School and Truro College. We’re delighted that every single one of the people who took part in the sessions also came to watch Starchitects at Hall for Cornwall.

Helen Tiplady Deputy Creative Director at Hall for Cornwall said:

‘Working in collaboration with visiting companies is the key. Building relationships and being present in communities develops loyalty and support for touring work. The years of wonderful outreach work and touring that Motionhouse has done has fed an audience and grown a love for the company. Couple that with the fact we have a fabulous dance scene here in Cornwall with so many wonderful dance artists and aspiring young dancers, its makes for a great moment! It’s just brilliant to be able to add in these additional inspirational visits and workshops to what’s already happening here week on week, and then for the groups to come and see the dancers they worked with perform their socks off on the stage is the icing on the cake. It makes me very happy and feeds the dance ecology of dance enthusiasts, dance audiences and dance makers of the future’

Huge thanks to our partners at Hall for Cornwall for all the hard work they put in to make these sessions happen. We had such a good time working with all the young people in our workshops and classes and we hope that you all enjoyed it as much as we did!
