Charge rehearsals continued today. This morning we were joined by BTEC Dance students from North Leamington School. The students watched the dancers run through the material and heard from members of the Motionhouse team, including our artistic director Kevin Finnan, about the workings of a professional dance company and the thought and inspirations behind Charge.
As part of their syllabus, the students need to learn how a professional dance comapany works – their teacher, Samantha Lane, reported that, “Taking students to watch Motionhouse rehearse was an invaluable experience for them.” She continued “It was great that Kevin Finnan shared with them some of the creative ideas behind the work, which helped to demonstrated that dance can tackle important themes and issues as well as being entertaining.”
Afterwards, the students said that they had been impressed with the upper body strength of the women and the fact that they often lifted the men in performance.
Here’s a bit of what the students saw today:
Today’s visit was a fantastic opportunity to give them this first hand insight into a day in the life of a professional dance company and also tackle some of the misconceptions that young people have about dance.
