Watermusic Diary: Executive Director

Louise Richards

30th August 2017

Our Executive Director Louise Richards has sent us an update from Randers, Denmark, where the company is preparing for our spectacular production Watermusic this weekend – part of the Aarhus 2017 European Capital of Culture celebrations.

“Two years on from our initial conversations with producers Peter and Mette from Randers Egnsteater it is amazing to be here at Randers harbour watching the final touches being put together to breathe life into Watermusic. Exactly a year ago Kevin, Austin, Logela and I were here testing ideas and by Christmas Kevin had dreamt up his scenario and images. Those stick men drawings and sketched ideas are now being realised on an immense and breathtaking scale.”

“Logela have once again created visual magic with a quirky human touch and Phil’s spectacular lighting (programmed by the amazing Lawrence using technology that I can’t even begin to understand) combine to create a magnificent canvas. Standing on the audience side looking out at the site, its humbling to see the fruits of so many people’s labours coming together to realise this extraordinary show – as projections play across the walls, dancers skim in unison on the buildings and lights are being focused.”

“This evening the full cast and choir join us. Oh Land and Oliver are sound checking, Sus and her team are putting finishing touches to the costumes. The crew, cast, production team, volunteers, artists and collaborators are a bustling community working hard together to achieve this magical show.

It is a great privilege to be here and witness.”
