Welcome to another Wondrous Wednesday, our blog dedicated to Wondrous Stories! Conceived and directed by our Artistic Director Kevin Finnan, this extraordinary large-scale production will be the opening show of the Birmingham 2022 Festival!
Last week, our wonderful long-time collaborators Imanol Garaizabal and Karlos Gomez from Logela Multimedia came to visit Birmingham and meet with Kevin and producers for the show OPUS Arts Events. They will be creating the digital imagery and huge projections that will bring Centenary Square to life and become the backdrop for Wondrous Stories. They have worked closely with Kevin over the years to create the digital-dance integration for which we are known and they are a vital partner in all theatre and event-based work.
During their visit, Imanol and Karlos joined the creative meetings to hear Kevin’s vision for the show and to begin developing initial ideas for the video and projections, as well as starting to capture footage and photos across the city.
They visited some of the iconic buildings and landscapes of Birmingham, from Soho Road to Old Joe (the clock tower at the University of Birmingham) travelling via the Balti Triangle and the city centre canals and spent some time in and around the buildings in Centenary Square where Wondrous Stories will be performed. They went out onto the balcony of the Library of Birmingham and had a look over the square and then went inside to take a look at some of the book collections including one of Britain’s most important Shakespeare collections, which belongs to the people of Birmingham!
Wondrous Stories is about bringing the people of Birmingham together in a celebration of the wondrous stories from across the region. Logela Multimedia will be taking inspiration from the varied architecture across the city to create the amazing projections that they are known for.
