Since September, we have been working with North Oxon Cultural Education Partnership to deliver a dance project for children in year 4 and year 5 at St Mary’s Church of England School in Banbury.
The project launched with our Creative Learning Dance Artist, Camilla and two company dancers delivering a whole school assembly. They told the children and staff all about Motionhouse, what the project would involve and what it’s like to work in the dance world. The launch also included a teacher Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course to inspire and empower the teaching staff at St Mary’s to deliver dance in school in the future.
This was followed by 7 weeks of dance workshops with Camilla for the children in year 4 and year 5. They worked hard to create a dance piece on the theme of Noah’s Ark, which they performed on a professional stage at The Mill Arts Centre last week to friends and family! The children did an excellent job and everyone was very proud of their achievements.
After performing, the children got the opportunity to watch a performance of our beautiful duet Lost and ask our dancers questions about the duet. The children had some great questions and found out about how our dancers made and rehearsed the piece as well as finding out the best ways to work well together.
Whilst taking part in the project the children also gained a Discover Arts Award.
It has been wonderful to see how dance really inspired the children!
