We’ve been shortlisted!

5th January 2023

We are delighted to share the news that we have been shortlisted alongside producers Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces for the Access All Areas Diversity and Inclusion Award for our show Wondrous Stories!

Wondrous Stories, the launch show for the Birmingham 2022 Festival, took place outdoors in Centenary Square in March this year. Our professional artists, alongside a mass cast of hundreds including performers from Critical Mass, Freewheelin (an inclusive wheelchair dance group) and Birmingham’s Choir With No Name, staged an inclusive, large-scale dance production with plenty of thrills as stories, a giant book and characters tumbled out of the night sky.

Access All Areas supports and showcases the power, creativity and successes of the outdoor and live events industry, and we are thrilled to be shortlisted for their award which recognises diversity, equity and inclusive practices within the sector. Wondrous Stories was a show for everyone, made by a local and international creative team. It celebrated our connection to stories, and we wanted it to speak to as many people as possible. Using stories as a starting point, Wondrous Stories was a dynamic and visual spectacle that also spoke about human values and connections. Through this concept, the show naturally celebrated individuality and inclusion, and both Creative and Production teams worked to ensure the show was as representative of Birmingham – and of all those who live here – as possible.
