Spending the past 3 weeks with the Motionhouse Team has been an invaluable experience. It has given me a great insight into how a successful and important arts organisation functions, from the administration to the marketing tasks, as well as learning about the organisation’s key close partnership with the community. I was able to gain experience in a wide variety of roles, something which is rare in placements and to develop skills across these areas. One thing which made the placement particularly valuable was the trust and independence I was given to carry out tasks myself as I became more confident, but never without support from the team if I needed it.
The structure of the placement was perfect as it allowed me to learn the process of creating and delivering an event, and experience the steps taken to ensure everything runs smoothly. These are things which are not always taught in university courses so it was great to have the opportunity to build on my existing knowledge whilst gaining hands-on experience.
I have no doubt that my time at Motionhouse and the advice I have received from the team, particularly Vicky and Tom, will support my professional development in the future. I would like to thank everyone at Motionhouse for their friendliness and willingness to involve me in this exciting project.
