Introducing Emma

18th December 2024

Today we’re shining a spotlight on Emma Cleaver, who joined us on a placement at the end of October and who will be working with us until the premiere of our new production Hidden in February 2025 at Warwick Arts Centre. Emma is in her third year at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and we met her during the recruitment process for the Disabled Choreographer placement. Once we found out what kind of experience she was looking for, we were very happy to be able to offer her a placement with us through Rambert’s third year Placement Pathway.

While she’s with us, Emma will be doing a range of activities including shadowing the creation process for our next touring production Hidden and has been working with our Assistant Director on the Young Choreographers project for Birmingham Hippodrome, as well as taking part in company class with our dancers. We spoke to her last month, just after she’d joined us, to find out why she wanted to work with us:

“Motionhouse is a company I have always been interested to work with. I am fascinated by composition and production as a whole and with set, technology, lighting and sound playing such vital roles in Motionhouse’s work, I am keen to learn more. Also, the company’s commitment to making dance more accessible is really important to me.

I am most looking forward to engaging in new experiences through this opportunity. To learn from and be mentored by Kevin, Danny and the team through the creation of ‘Hidden’ is such an exciting prospect. I am looking forward to being involved in the process and seeing how the show progresses from start to stage. Also, I am excited to be involved in a wide range of the company’s outreach projects and explore their signature dance-circus style.

I hope this experience will help me grow as a dance artist and choreographer. Ultimately, I hope it will support me in accessing further career opportunities due to the invaluable knowledge the team have so generously shared.”

Welcome Emma – we’re loving having you with us!
