Meet our Marketing & Development Assistant

From placement student to employee...

10th June 2019

Hello everyone, I am Megan Hamer, a BA Dance Student from the University of Surrey and Motionhouse’s Marketing and Development Assistant. Last week marked the end of my placement year with Motionhouse lasting from August until May, but not the end of my time with the company as I am delighted to continue my role until September when I leave to complete my final year at University.

During my time with Motionhouse I have been lucky enough to gain so many new skills, learn vital knowledge of the industry and be involved with a multitude of amazing opportunities. Some of my highlights at Motionhouse so far include: being involved with the planning and preparation of the 30th anniversary celebrations and seeing this come together at our gala dinner event, going along to lots of our tour dates (I’ve seen Charge, BLOCK, Exo, WILD, Happy Hour, Knot and Lost so far) and interact with audiences to collect their feedback, covering the story of large-scale spectacle Lumen in Timisoara, Romania on the blog, having the opportunity to join in with some company classes with the dancers, creating new social media campaigns and so much more. It has also been really special for me being able to document the full process of new work WILD, from the initial R&D period all the way through to the premiere. Motionhouse is such an active company that I am never short of things to do- there is always something new and exciting for me to get stuck into!

My placement has given me an inside perspective into the dance industry and what goes on behind the scenes in order to run a successful dance company, providing me with invaluable industry experience and knowledge to apply to my future in the arts when I graduate next summer.  I am so grateful to everyone at Motionhouse for giving me this incredible opportunity and for welcoming me into the Motionhouse family. I can’t wait to continue my role here over the next few months and to see what the summer brings!
