Meet our new dancers!

A warm welcome to our new dancers!

9th July 2021

As theatres and festivals start to reopen and with thanks to the support we received from the Cultural Recovery Funding, we are starting to rebuild our team. We are delighted to welcome four new dancers!

Meet (from left to right) Alex, Kai, Llewelyn and Nana.

Alex, Kai, Llewelyn and Nana have been busy getting to know the company, training for the Motionhouse-specific skills and learning our repertoire. They have also been working with the other Motionhouse dancers in teaching our community classes. You might be lucky enough to catch them performing Captive over the summer – so give them a big cheer if you do!

A bit about our new dancers...

Alex is from Cheshire and started contemporary dance at the age of 14 at the Lowry CAT scheme. She then joined Rambert school when she was 17, graduating from there this year. Alex is excited to perform Captive and looking forward to the challenge of learning some new techniques needed for performing it!

Kai is from Bermuda, he began his training at United Dance Productions in tap and hip hop, then went on to train in ballet, jazz and modern. He moved to London in 2009 where he trained in contemporary dance and ballet at the London Contemporary Dance School. Kai is most looking forward to working with and learning from the Motionhouse team and learning more dance-circus techniques.

Llewelyn is from South Wales, he got into dancing through gymnastics with a connection to a local theatre school, learning dancing, singing and acting. He joined the National Dance Company of Wales Associates Programme at the age of 13 then moved on to Rambert School where he graduated from this year. Llewelyn has said he can’t wait to learn some more circus skills as well as getting to perform on our amazing sets!

Nana trained at Rambert School. She began dancing through athletics and then started African and commercial dance. She first started learning contemporary dance when she joined the CAT programme at Laban following on to train at Rambert school where she graduated this year. Nana is most looking forward to working in our unique style of dance-circus and performing in our new show Nobody.
