Wondrous Wednesday – Meet guest performers Freewheelin!

Inclusive dance in the heart of Birmingham

12th January 2022

It’s another Wondrous Wednesday; our blog dedicated to Wondrous Stories! Conceived and directed by our Artistic Director Kevin Finnan, this extraordinary large-scale production will be the opening show of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

This week we are featuring guest performers for the show, Freewheelin. Run by Helen Mason, Freewheelin are an inclusive dance group based in Birmingham. Helen has a long history with Motionhouse, her passion for contemporary dance starting from her own experience in Motionhouse Youth.

From Motionhouse Youth, Helen then went on to do a degree in dance and in 2017 she set up Freewheelin. We are so excited to be joined by Helen and Freewheelin for Wondrous Stories in what feels like a full circle moment!

Watch the video below to hear Helen’s story and find out more about the significance of this performance for Freewheelin in showing inclusivity within the arts.

As well as performing at festivals and events, Freewheelin offer weekly classes in Birmingham. Check out their website for more information.

Don’t miss Freewheelin’s appearance in the show! Wondrous Stories will be performed in Centenary Square, Birmingham with free performances every evening from March 17 – 20 2022.
