Our 2021 highlights

23rd December 2021

As 2021 draws to a close, we’re getting in the festive spirit here at Motionhouse! Here are a few of our favourite moments from the past year.

We came back dancing!

This summer marked our return to live shows after 16 months without being able to perform. It has been amazing to be back out on the road doing what we love to do!

Welcoming new dancers to the team

We were delighted to welcome four new dancers to our team this summer. You can follow our new dancers Alex, Llewelyn, Nana and Rikkai on their journey and training to become Motionhouse dancers in our short documentary, ‘Becoming a Motionhouse Dancer’.

Get to know the dancers and hear about why they wanted to join Motionhouse in this special behind-the-scenes film which gives you a glimpse into life as a Motionhouse dancer.

With thanks to Arts Council England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) for support from the Cultural Recovery Fund.

Performing at the National Lottery's Team GB Homecoming

In August, we had the honour of performing to the Team GB athletes at The National Lottery‘s Team GB Homecoming at The SSE Arena, Wembley, in a collaboration with the brilliant Yungblud.

If you missed the concert, don’t worry! You can watch the performance below or you can catch the whole show on BBC iPlayer!

Premiering our new show Nobody

After such a long period without performing in theatres, we finally unveiled our brand new show Nobody in September at the world premiere at Sadler’s Wells’ The Peacock Theatre!

We’ve had amazing reviews with 4 stars from The Guardian and The Times (subscription is required to view the full Times article), as well as being a huge hit with audiences.

Since its premiere, we’ve so far performed Nobody across the UK and Europe as part of its major tour to 28 venues. Nobody returns to the stage in January, visit the Tour Dates page of our website to find out if it’s coming to a theatre near you!

And if you’re looking for the perfect gift, why not offer tickets to Nobody?

Wondrous Stories

Multiple characters fall from a giant book that flies across the night sky, the library of Birmingham can be seen in the background

This autumn we also announced that we’re creating Wondrous Stories! Conceived and directed by our Artistic Director Kevin Finnan, this extraordinary large-scale production will be the opening show of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

From 17-20 March 2022, we will transform Birmingham’s Centenary Square into the stage for Wondrous Stories, a spectacular large-scale show which will open the festival. A flying book, bicycles and a massive globe come together with incredible digital projections in a giant aerial spectacle.

We can’t wait to share this extraordinary event with you. Visit our Wondrous Wednesdays blog to get all of the latest updates and some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks of what’s in store as we create this amazing show.
