We are leaders in the field of outdoor performance and large-scale spectacle, renowned for our ambitious experimentation with performance environments. We have created work for sites, for celebrations, for festivals and for ceremonies. Commissions so far have featured pyrotechnics, giant sandcastles, hot air balloons, huge fairy-tale ballgowns and a life-size ocean liner. Our Artistic Director, Kevin Finnan was Choreographer and Movement Director of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Our largest event to date, The Voyage, launched the London 2012 Festival in the West Midlands in June 2012 in Birmingham City Centre, attracting more than 15,000 people across three nights, and included dancers, aerialists, a large gospel choir, a brass band and more than 140 community performers.
We are now developing Watermusic, which promises to be even bigger, and will be a stunning outdoor spectacle animating the harbour in Randers, Denmark for the Aarhus European Capital of Culture celebrations in September 2017.

Motionhouse’s work is some of the most startling and original performance based contemporary dance I have had the pleasure of witnessing… the original dynamic performance and sheer talent of the performers leaves the viewer utterly amazed. The incredible physical achievements and beautiful dance by this group are just captivating.
Sir Richard Taylor, Weta, New Zealand (Creators of Avatar and Lord of the Rings)
What a fantastic achievement indeed and congratulations Kevin – full of admiration for this latest achievement and for all you have achieved over the years at Motionhouse – one of the most creative companies in dance over many, many years and you deserve to bathe in the glow of this latest spectacular which I loved!
Marie McCluskey MBE, Director of Swindon Dance congratulating Kevin on his role as Choreographer & Director of Movement of the London 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony
Spectacle is a word that is often over used in theatre but for The Voyage there is no other word. This outside dance theatre performance uses every sense to tell a simple story of love and loss, companionship and adventure. The feeling of pride, patriotism and wonder was palpable… Everyone knew how special and unique this event was and will be eternally grateful that their city was chosen to host it.
